Kosdon at MWP

Anyone planning to fly any Kosdon motors at MWP? I should specify, I mean real Kosdon, not KBA.

I had planned to try a 29mm I560 in a Wildman Blackhawk but since I can't make it to the new dates that isn't going to happen.

Poor HTPB cure

Hello! Finally I recovered some R45 HTLO from the university and I started some cure experiments with a MDI curing agent.
I tried to make a 0,08 curing ratio as descrived in "How to make amateur rockets" of CP technologies.
5 grams of R45 and 0,4 grams of MDI measured with a 1/100 gram scale
After 24 hours the HTPB is very sticky.
What I have to do? A bit more curative?

Metal Mesh Size

Something I have never had a real grasp on is what, if any, impact the particle size of metals in a formula have on its burn characteristics.

What got me thinking about this is a couple things. First, I have used 325 and 400 mesh Al and Mg basically interchangably with no noticable difference in performance. Second, I don't think I have more than one single formula in my library that calls for metals with a particle size smaller than 400.

Well Im beginning the design of my L3 rocket. I settled on the little john and plan on doing it 1/2 scale but building it for some serious motors. I will be designing it entirely in solidworks before I build it. Focus will be on proper engineering and being very strong but light weight. Not over building aka fiberglassing things to the point of no return. It will have a 114mm motor mount for EX flights and the planned L3 motor is the small Loki M case. No idea what load just yet.

Hello, living in italy is difficult to get some R45 or R20 and the curative because experimental is not common in europe, so vendors doesn't stock binders. My request is this:
Can somebody be so kind to ship me a gallon of R45 or R20 plus curative and possibly with some DOA? I will return the favor.

Check out the second picture. Not sure what to make of this but I've heard some negative things about the dog trainers out at Bong. Based on the picture one would assume they have found and confiscated someones ill fated rocket.

I could be wrong and they are rocketeers that are recovering their rocket. Never know so I just wanted to post it.

Rocket recovered by farmer in the corn field north of walcott launch site. I picked it up today. Rocket is blue ,,cardboard tube..orange chute. Has transition to nose cone..
Rocket in fair shape,,wet...imagine that...chute is toast,,motor casing still in rocket....and it is stuck real good...farmer picked it up before running over it..

Got the motor out,without damage to rocket,,now inner mmt can dry out....,,got it all cleaned up and it is in really pretty good...

Ok since MWP was pushed back, I decided to add to my fleet....of 1.

I bought a wildman jr last friday after work. It came the following tuesday. Only bad part was a shattered centering ring, no biggie as Tim put another in the mail for me. Theyre made of some kinda flimsy 3 ply what looks like basswood so I went to Al's after work tonight to pickup some LOC rings which match and are nice...

Since MWP is postponed and neither Larry nor I can make it on the new dates we decided to go to the last launch of the season yesterday with the boys of Tripoli Southern Minnesota. He was ready and wanted to cert so we had to get it done before he loses interest. Larry is gonna be pi$$ed I'm posting this but I wanted to share that he certed L1 there using a Wildman Blackhawk on an H128 which took off like a bullet.

Recovery was a bit long as we never saw it after motor...

L/D ratio

Here are 2 BS sims. Both have almost same int and max Kn. First one has an L/D ratio of 1.91, but has a more progressive profile.
Second one has more flatter profile, closer to neutral, but has L/D ratio of 1.74. My understanding is to keep ratios close to 2.
Which one would you use?

Big Red Bee test flight in a high altitude balloon

I have a 2M high power BRB unit that is to be flown this Sunday from Elkins, WV. The balloon should go up at 0900 eastern time. The flight is planned to reach 100,000 feet and test the GPS transmitter for a later rocket flight to the same altitude. A 1300 foot per minute rise is anticipated. This means a 77 minute flight at which time the balloon is supposed to pop.

Current wind models suggest the flight should travel 100 miles or so due east, which brings it back to the Leesburg,...

Ok thought i'd share a funny video with whom ever ! Clayton flew his 4in.dia. two stager fully loaded with on-board video,lets see who can figure out just went wrong ?
Don't mind all the confussion on the range the 1st flight off the away pad's. I'll give ya's time to see if any-one can figure out,what he did wrong ? Because i'm next with my 3in.dia. "Two stager" & i won't make the same mistake he did !

These are from a veeery long time ago. I was designing and began building a large hybrid around this tubing. Its very high quality, very expensive and not easy to get.
