LOC 54 build thread

At the last tripoli wisconsi launch scott gave me an old beat up LOC IV for me to fix up. As I started taking it apart I had an idea.Im gonna give it glass all over and a 54mm mount that will accept up to the L-730 case. I plan on flying it at MWP on a K-805 mojave green. Rocksim tells me I should be going to 9000 ft and Mach 1.5. should be an interesting flight. Ill have pics posted soon.

Well Im beginning the design of my L3 rocket. I settled on the little john and plan on doing it 1/2 scale but building it for some serious motors. I will be designing it entirely in solidworks before I build it. Focus will be on proper engineering and being very strong but light weight. Not over building aka fiberglassing things to the point of no return. It will have a 114mm motor mount for EX flights and the planned L3 motor is the small Loki M case. No idea what load just yet.

Ok since MWP was pushed back, I decided to add to my fleet....of 1.

I bought a wildman jr last friday after work. It came the following tuesday. Only bad part was a shattered centering ring, no biggie as Tim put another in the mail for me. Theyre made of some kinda flimsy 3 ply what looks like basswood so I went to Al's after work tonight to pickup some LOC rings which match and are nice...

areopack retainer help

I bought the wildman DD and I got an aeropack motor retainer( the bolt on design ) and every time i try to put in the inserts the ring keeps snapping.

Does anyone have any advice?

ground testing

I am building a 4FNC, 3" airframe 38mm MM. I have a new missleworks rrc2-mini. So as I design the av-bay and construct this for MWP7 i now have to figure out how to ground test. So how do people do their testing before flight to determine the amount of BP?

Any example and advise are appreciated.

Coupler

I'm looking for some ideas on using a coupler or some other way of piecing the airframe together but separating at apogee. This would be for a 24" or 30" airframe. Would a coupler at this size tend to bind? I like the way Steve Eves did his Saturn but his was also a 40" airframe.

Well I finally got all the parts together to move forward on my rocket for the "4" Rocket 3" Motor" Drag Race. 98MM Case Cutting

Just walked in the door from LDRS, awesome three days, got to the launch on Friday, did my L1/2/3 on Saturday, BALLS project from last year and my dad's old L3 project yesterday, and the new 120-lb brute today, and ended up with no damage on anything, or so I thought. I opened up the booster from the flight today, (Fisher 4" x 53") and it bubbled pretty badly on the forward end, just needs 4-5" cut off and a new snap ring groove cut and it should be fine. Sledgehammer

After My Sledgehammer two stage turned into an airplane at MWP it needed a little repair.
I got her all fixed up though . Im going to fly it at LDRS on a N3180 to N1100 hopefully to 22,000 ft.

Following on the discussion of the Yaesu VX-8R, here is a photo of the nose cone payload section in which the BRB GPS transmitter will ride:

The hole at 8 o'clock was used to pour expanding foam into the cone. The foam now surrounds the 54mm tube sunk 16 inches into the cone.

I have photos of the rocket itself, but can not get them to upload to the site....
